Mazabuka police have launched a manhunt for Victor Mabebo, a known ex-convict, accused of defiling a 9-year-old girl in Nkabika Compound on April 27, 2025.
Southern Province Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident, which occurred around 14:00 hours when the girl was sent on an errand by her mother.
Mabebo allegedly offered the child 5 kwacha and lured her to his residence in Stage Two Compound, where the assault is reported to have taken place.
A neighbor, suspicious of the girl’s behavior and aware of Mabebo’s criminal history, attempted to intervene.
However, Mabebo fled before he could be questioned.
The victim’s mother immediately reported the matter to Mazabuka Police Station, where a medical examination form was issued.
According to the local Ward Development Committee Chairperson, Mabebo had recently completed a 25-year prison sentence for defiling a 7-year-old girl.
Police are appealing to the public for information that could assist in locating the suspect.
