ERB WARNS AGAINST ILLEGAL LPG TRADING, SETS DECEMBER 31 DEADLINE FOR LICENSING

.

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has warned that traders involved in the sale and distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) without valid licenses risk prosecution, imprisonment of up to five years, or a fine of K200,000.

In a statement issued on November 5th, 2025, the ERB Public Relations Manager Namukolo Kasumpa has expressed concern over the increasing number of unlicensed LPG traders despite an earlier warning issued in February this year.

Ms. Kasumpa has emphasized that trading in LPG without a valid license is an offence under the Energy Regulation Act No. 12 of Stating that offenders will face enforcement actions, including prosecution or fines, in line with section 10(2) of the Act.

She has further noted that unlicensed LPG trading not only violates the law but also poses safety risks to traders, consumers, and the general public.

She has explained that licensed traders are required to comply with strict safety standards, including the use of approved equipment, trained attendants, and proper storage and handling of LPG.

To address the issue, the ERB has given all businesses and individuals engaged in LPG trading until 31st December 2025 to obtain the necessary licenses.
