
The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved 29 licences and 12 construction permits, representing a combined investment of ZMW 6 billion (US$266 million) across Zambia’s energy, petroleum, electricity and renewable energy subsectors.
ERB Public Relations Manager Namukolo Kasumpa said the approvals signal renewed investor confidence in the sector.
The announcement follows a Licensing Committee meeting held on 14th November, during which the ERB cleared two major solar power construction projects.
JSCGCO Energy Corporation Limited – authorised to construct two proposed 110 MW solar PV power plants in Chisamba and Siavonga, valued at US$190 million.
Globeleq Kufue Solar Limited granted approval for a proposed 56 MW solar PV plant in Kafue District, worth US$54 million.
Additionally, 53 road tanker vehicles have been licensed for petroleum product transportation, while several new retail sites and distribution services have been cleared to begin operations measures aimed at enhancing nationwide energy access, safety and service delivery.
