The wife of former Petauke Member of Parliament Emmanuel Jay Banda, Chali Lombe, along with five law enforcement officers, has been found with a case to answer for allegedly aiding Banda’s escape from lawful custody.
Chipata Principal Resident Magistrate Boniface Mwala ruled that the prosecution presented sufficient evidence to warrant the accused to enter their defense.
Those facing charges include Lombe, two police officers—Mfungwe Phineas and Kabole Benson—and three Correctional Service warders: Sakala Moses, Nathan Mbao, and Musa “Spider” Zulu. They are charged with aiding a prisoner to escape, contrary to Section 120, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
The case has been adjourned to June 5 and 6 for commencement of the defense.
