Police in Solwezi have launched a manhunt for two unknown male suspects who allegedly swindled eight farmers of K35,800 through false pretenses at Solwezi City Mall.
The incident occurred on January 16, 2026, around 10:30 hours, and was reported later the same day at Kyawama Police Station by Mr. Kelvin Katembo, aged 40, of the Kankonzi area, on behalf of the affected farmers from Kalumbila District.
According to North-Western Province Police Commissioner Brighton Siwale, the suspects posed as fertilizer sellers, offering the product at K900 per 50kg bag.
After convincing the farmers to pool their money, the suspects collected the cash and later disappeared under the pretext of obtaining a receipt.
Mr. Siwale said officers who visited the scene impounded a Canter truck bearing registration number ATC 192, which was allegedly used to deceive the farmers.
However, police have since established that the vehicle owner was not involved in the crime.
A docket has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.
North-Western Province Police Commissioner Brighton Siwale confirmed the development in a statement issued to Diamond Media, saying police are actively pursuing the suspects.
