An Egyptian journalist identified as Karim Asaad has been detained in that country, following his coverage of the gold scam plane intercepted in Zambia last week.

According to Middle East Eye, an online news agency, the Journalist has been detained for linking some Egyptian government officials to the scandal.

It is alleged that one of the Egyptian suspects worked as a military officer with the rank of major, at the Egyptian embassy in Washington, United States.

Meanwhile, thirteen suspects in the gold scam have remained in custody and will appear before Lusaka magistrate Court tomorrow, on corruption allegations.

The lawyers representing the suspects say the detention is unconstitutional and against human rights.

Last week, authorities in Zambia seized 602 pieces of fake gold and measuring equipment were found on two jets and money amounting to 5.7 million dollars.
