The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- has dismissed as false and misleading allegations circulating on social media claiming that ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis has been arrested after allegedly being found with pre-marked ballot papers.
In a statement, Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro says the video circulating on the Zambia Affairz Facebook page is fabricated and intended to mislead members of the public.
Mr. Kasaro said the ECZ Chairperson has not been arrested and further clarified that no ballot papers for the 2026 General Election have been printed.
He has described the video as AI-generated and part of a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
Mr. Kasaro has since urged citizens, stakeholders and media institutions to disregard the video and avoid sharing or amplifying its contents.
He has further called on the public to verify information before sharing it, especially during a period where digitally manipulated content and misinformation are increasingly being used to deceive people.
