The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has called for an orderly and peaceful poll in Nyimba district, ahead of the Mtilizi Ward by-election scheduled for Thursday, April 10th 2025.
During a briefing for polling agents, media personnel, monitors, and observers on Election Day procedures, ECZ Director of Electoral Operations Royd Katongo emphasized that the campaign period has generally been peaceful, and the Commission hopes this positive trend continues through to Election Day.
Mr. Katongo has underlined that violence is not only a criminal act but also has the potential to undermine the integrity and credibility of the election process.
He has stated that citizens must be able to cast their votes freely, without fear of intimidation, in a safe and peaceful environment.
The ECZ official has also urged polling agents to ensure they provide accurate information to their party leadership, warning that hasty conclusions based on misinformation could jeopardize the electoral process.
He has further reminded all stakeholders that any violations of the electoral code of conduct would result in sanctions.
The Bye election in Nyimba was necessitated by the resignation of Evaristo Phiri of the opposition patriotic front (PF) on the 26th of December 2024 to pursue personal endeavours.
