Some tobacco farmers in Chipata have sued Haven Tobacco Zambia Limited and the Tobacco Board of Zambia (TBZ) for failure to pay for tobacco produce sold during the 2025 marketing season.
The case, filed in the Chipata Subordinate Court, centres on unpaid dues amounting to ZMW 851,000 owed to ten farmers who supplied tobacco to Haven Tobacco in Chipata District.
In addition to the outstanding payments, the plaintiffs are also seeking compensation from the Tobacco Board of Zambia for alleged breach of contract and mental anguish suffered as a result of the prolonged non-payment.
