The Zambia Police Service in Eastern Province and the residents of Kagoro have agreed to work together to maintain peace and fight crime in the community.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba reminded Kagoro residents that the 2022 incident, in which nine police officers were assaulted and a police vehicle burnt to ashes, must never repeat itself.
He emphasized the critical role the Zambia Police Service plays in maintaining law and order while collaborating with the community.
Meanwhile, Chieftainess Kawaza assured the Police Command that with proper collaboration, no residents will be allowed to repeat the attack on police officers.
The traditional leader stated that this commitment is why Kagoro residents requested a police station under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), so that police and the community can work together to curb crimes such as defilement and murder, among others.
In November 2022, nine police officers were assaulted by villagers in the Kagoro area, while nine others fled for their lives.
A police vehicle was also burnt to ashes.
Seventeen villagers were arrested, taken to court and handed a three-year suspended sentence.
