The Provincial Joint Operations Committee comprising the Zambia Revenue Authority, Provincial Administration, and Security Wings has impounded 3, 844 bags of mealie meal and 900 bags of maize grain in Eastern Province.
The mealie meal bags consist of 1, 010 five-kilogram bags, 861 10-kg bags, and 1, 973 25-kg bags.
Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Eastern Province Assistant Commissioner Chiwama Malama says 27 vehicles that were used have also been seized.
And Eastern Province Minister Peter Phiri has warned smugglers that security wings will remain vigilant to curb smuggling which has caused an artificial shortage of mealie meals in some parts of the province.
The bags of Mealie meal and maize grain have been handed over to the Eastern Province administration.
