In Chipata City’s Mchenga Township, a single mother’s struggle to feed her children has become a harsh reality.
Winfridah Phiri, a mother of five, is battling hunger due to effects of the drought that left millions countrywide at the mercy of the government for support.
With no dependable income, Ms. Phiri’s home is forced to go without food for days.
However, there is a glimmer of hope from the recently launched cash-for-work programme by the government.
About K14 million has been set aside for Chipata Central Constituency of which K408, 000 has been disbursed to 680 households for September 2024.
