A cholera outbreak that began in Chipata, Eastern Province, has spread to four more districts, with 85 reported cases and 35 confirmed laboratory tests since May 29, 2024.
The outbreak initially affected Chipata, but has now reached Lumezi, Chadiza, Mambwe, and Chipangali districts.
Minister of Health, Sylvia Masebo, disclosed this in a Ministerial statement in Parliament on Thursday, June 13, 2024.
Health officials have linked the cases in Chipata to contaminated food eaten at Saturday Market.
Chipata remains the epicenter with 62 reported cases, Mambwe with six, Lumezi with four, Chadiza two and Chipangali 11.
And Ms. Masebo says 345,000 doses of cholera vaccines will be administered in Chipata as part of the 2 million doses donated to Zambia.
