As Zambia faces high mealie meal prices, Democratic Republic of Congo, Katanga Province Governor says his province is equally hit with a dire shortage of the commodity.

Speaking when he called on Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo at his Office, Jacques Kyabula Katwe has wondered why Zambia has reduced exportation of mealie meal to the region, resulting in prices skyrocketing.

Mr. Katwe says his province has tried to venture into farming but cannot match the capacity in production of mealie meal that Zambia does, adding that the current short supply of the commodity is putting pressure on the provincial leadership.

Copperbelt Minister, Elisha Matambo assured the delegation that millers are still abiding to the twenty percent export to DR Congo, but the local market remains priority.

Mr. Matambo further says the Zambian Government will continue working on strengthening Trade with Congo DR, as it is a huge market for various commodities from Zambia.
