A team of skilled medical doctors at Maina Soko Medical Centre in Lusaka has successfully removed a bullet from a 16-year-old boy from Nkabika Compound, Mazabuka. The teenager had been living with the bullet in his body for the past five years after being shot during the 2020 “gassing period.”
The complex surgery was performed by a team of surgeons and volunteers led by Dr. Michael Mbambiko, a consultant general surgeon at the hospital. Speaking after the operation, Dr. Mbambiko described the case as a miracle, noting that the bullet did not damage any vital organs despite being lodged deep in the boy’s body.
“The bullet entered through his chest and settled under his armpit, near delicate blood vessels and nerves close to the heart. It is truly remarkable that he survived without any major complications over the years,” Dr. Mbambiko said.
The surgical team took careful measures to extract the bullet without causing harm to surrounding tissues. Despite the complexity of the procedure, the operation was successful. The teenager is now in stable condition and remains under medical observation to ensure a full recovery.
His family members, overwhelmed with relief, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and medical staff for their dedication and expertise in performing the life-saving operation.
The boy’s story highlights the resilience of the human body and the crucial role of advanced medical intervention in cases that seem nearly impossible.
