DELIMITATION CONSENSUS MUST BE GENDER-INCLUSIVE – ECZ

.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has called for greater gender inclusivity in the ongoing delimitation process, urging stakeholders to ensure balanced representation at all levels.

ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis made the remarks in Chinsali during the Muchinga Province sitting after noting that most district delegations, including those from faith-based organisations, were predominantly male.

Ms Zaloumis described the trend as concerning, stressing that meaningful consensus cannot be achieved without the full participation of both men and women.

She emphasised that District Electoral Officers must ensure that submissions presented to the Commission reflect the views of all genders, while acknowledging the strong turnout and commitment from stakeholders.

Ms Zaloumis has urged all stakeholders to take deliberate steps to promote gender balance, describing it as essential to building a fair and representative electoral framework.
