CURAÇAO HOLD ECUADOR TO GOALLESS DRAW

.

Curaçao secured a stunning goalless draw against Ecuador at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Sunday, with goalkeeper Eloy Room producing a record-breaking performance to earn his country a historic World Cup point.

The 37-year-old made 15 saves to set a new record for the most stops in 90 minutes of a World Cup match since records began in 1966 single handedly denying an Ecuador side ranked far higher than Curaçao’s 81st position in the world.

Ecuador dominated for large spells, with Room making 6 saves before half time alone , while Enner Valencia was guilty of 2 glaring misses for the South Americans at either end of the match.

The result leaves Ecuador needing to beat Germany in their final group game to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages while Curaçao will progress if they beat Ivory Coast in their last fixture. It is a remarkable result for a nation of just 158,000 people, who suffered a 7-1 defeat to Germany in their opener.
