CSOs WEIGH IN ON K1.2 BILLION BUDGET TOWARDS ELECTIONS

.

Transparency International Zambia-TIZ has welcomed government’s decision to allocate K1.2 billion kwacha to the Electoral Commission of Zambia in the 2026 national budget.

Executive Director Maurice Nyambe says the figure up from over 460 million kwacha in 2025 and 668 million kwacha in 2021 is a notable investment in strengthening electoral processes.

And Southern Africa Center for the Constructive Resolution of Despites- SACCORD Executive Director Arthur Muyunda, however, raised concerns about whether the allocation considers proposed constitutional amendments, including the creation of new constituencies.

He cautioned that without clear provisions, part of the budget may need to be realigned during midterm reviews.
