Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba says the Zambia Police Service must remain focused on fighting crime as the country moves beyond the 2026 General Elections.
Mr. Musamba says crime does not pause when an election ends, urging police officers to continue serving with impartiality, integrity, and discipline while respecting human rights, the Constitution, and the law.
Speaking at Lilayi Police College in Lusaka when he addressed senior police officers following the just ended 2026 General Elections, Mr Musamba also credited the cooperation of citizens and various institutions for the peaceful conduct of the electoral process.
He says the peaceful conclusion of the elections was not an achievement of the Police Service alone but resulted from cooperation among institutions and the responsible participation of citizens.
And Deputy Inspector General of Police Operations Fred Hamaamba says the Police Service deployed 21,340 police officers and 2,550 recruits across the country during the election security operation.
Mr. Hamaamba says the deployment covered polling stations, tallying centres, command posts, and other critical locations, following an increase in constituencies from 156 to 226 and polling stations from 12,152 to 13,525.
He says the operation recorded high levels of discipline, dedication, and professionalism, with no adverse disciplinary concerns involving officers deployed for election policing.
Mr. Musamba says the service will build on the experience by strengthening community policing, information-sharing, and partnerships aimed at preventing crime and building public confidence.
