COURT TO HEAR HH ELIGIBILITY CASE

The Constitutional Court has scheduled June 19, 2026, as a day of hearing in a matter United Party for National Development –UPND member Charles Longwe is challenging

President Hakainde Hichilema’s candidature in the 2026 General Election.

State Counsel Mulambo Haimbe has confirmed the development to journalists today.

Mr. Haimbe says the hearing date has been set following a scheduling conference held in Chambers Wednesday before Constitutional Court Judge Martin Musaluke attended by Mr. Haimbe and Michael Moono, who are representing President Hichilema and lawyer Benjamin Mwelwa representing Mr. Longwe

The full bench of the Constitutional Court is set to hear the petition.

And Counsel Moono says the court is expected to announce the date for its judgment after the hearing.

Mr. Longwe is challenging President HIchilema’s candidature in the 2026 General Election, arguing that the UPND did not hold a valid convention before his nomination on May 22, 2026.
