Lusaka High Court Judge, Conceptor Zulu has set June 16, 2023, as the date on which to deliver a ruling in a matter in which former President Edgar Lungu’s political advisor Dr. Christopher Zumani Zimba and three others are seeking bail pending court a appearance on terrorism allegations.
In this case, police allegedly link the four suspects to the infamous gassing incidents that occurred between 2019 and 2020.
Further, the suspects are facing an offence of being in possession of alleged articles for terrorism or proliferation purposes, Contrary to Section 25 of the Anti-Terrorism Act number 6 of 2018 as read with Section 2 of the Amended Anti–terrorism Act number 6 of 2023.
In their application, the quartet argues that police have unjustly continued to detain them since 15th May 2023 despite the offence they are facing having been bondable at the time it was alleged to have occurred.
According to a certificate of urgency, the applicants say the offence only became non-bailable on April 18, 2023 after the act was repealed.
