The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has issued a bench warrant for former Nkana Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu after he failed to appear before court for the continuation of trial in his sedition case.
The order follows an explanation by Mr. Mpundu’s surety, former Kafinsa Member of Parliament Christopher Kang’ombe, who told the court that the accused was stranded in Luapula Province due to financial and transport challenges after his vehicle reportedly developed a mechanical fault.
However, Magistrate Webster Milumbe rejected the explanation as unsatisfactory and ordered that Mr. Mpundu be brought before the court to explain his absence.
The matter has been adjourned to July 20, 2026, for the return of the bench warrant.
