The Lusaka High court has dismissed a case challenging the leadership of the United Party for National Development (UPND), a move that has prompted the petitioner, Charles Longwe, to signal his intention to contest the ruling.
Mr. Longwe argued that the party’s leadership term had expired.
In an interview, Mr. Longwe says High court judge Justice Chibabuka Chaangu has dismissed his case without reason .
He says that he has since reported the matter to the Judicial Complaints Commission and expects immediate action.
He had sued the party for failing to hold an elective general conference, contrary to both the national and party constitutions , asking the court to declare the National Management Committee, which was ushered into office on February 14, 2021, as operating illegally, in accordance with Article 56 of the party constitution.
