Two people have been arrested in Kabwe, Central Province, after they were found in possession of 307.2 kilograms of ZESCO cables, suspected to have been supplied to them by unknown vandals involved in the vandalism of ZESCO installations.
Central Province Police Commissioner Charity Munganga confirmed the arrest, identifying the suspects as a couple from Luangwa Township in Kabwe, who are reportedly known buyers of stolen and vandalised ZESCO cables. The incident occurred on October 21, 2025, around 20:00 hours in Luangwa Township.
Commissioner Munganga explained that the arrest followed intensive investigations into a series of vandalism cases targeting ZESCO installations. The investigations revealed that unknown vandals had been supplying stolen cables to Sunday Sichimata and Anna Ngoma, who in turn allegedly sold them to customers based on the Copperbelt and in Lusaka.
She added that a search conducted at the couple’s residence led to the recovery of assorted ZESCO cables weighing 307.2 kilograms.
The suspects have since been charged with being in possession of property believed to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained. They are currently in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
