Copperbelt Province has asked the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to allocate 11 new constituencies through the ongoing delimitation process.
This came to light when ten District Electoral Officers submitted their delimitation reports to the Commission on Wednesday March 11, 2026.
Among the submissions, Kitwe Electoral Officer Patrick Kambita requested two additional constituencies to be created from the district’s existing five, citing the area’s large population.
He noted that Kitwe is the second most populated district after Lusaka.
However, ECZ Commissioner McDonald Chipenzi, in his closing remarks, said the Commission will review all submissions but warned that not every request will result in the creation of new constituencies.
And ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis asked all stakeholders to be patient with the commission.
The Commission is currently receiving reports from all ten provinces before announcing the names and boundaries of the 70 new constituencies expected to be created ahead of the 2026 General Election.
