Less than a day after the mother of the conjoined twins James and Joshua Phiri of Kunda village in Kasenengwa District, Eastern Province appealed for financial and material support, government has moved in by pledging to giving the minors a bi-monthly allocation of K800 support under the Social Cash Transfer.
Kasenengwa District Commissioner Rachael Phiri has confirmed to Diamond news that the assistance will consist of food hampers to supplement the children’s nutrition.
On January 11, 2023 mother of the infants, Stella Ziwa, revealed her family’s inability to meet the cost of basic items and lack of a wheelchair to ease the movement of the children.
The support of the twins who are 18 months old will be spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare under a programme called Public Welfare Assistance Scheme.
