.

Drama unfolded at Ndeke Clinic after a woman believed to be between 25 and 30 years old was brought in by community members along with her one month old baby, whom she allegedly attempted to suffocate due to excessive alcohol consumption.

According to witnesses, neighbours intervened after allegedly finding the woman in a drunken state and attempting to suffocate the baby. The infant, who was reportedly born prematurely at six months, was rushed to Ndeke Clinic by concerned community members.

Sources disclosed to Diamond news reporter that this is allegedly the second time the woman has attempted to harm her one month old baby.

Police officers from Mazabuka responded swiftly, apprehending the mother and taking the baby into protective custody. The Department of Social Welfare has also been informed and is yet to determine the next course of action regarding the welfare of the child.
