The Seventh Day Adventist Church says it will not ban church missions, as they are part of the church’s fellowship activities.

This follows an accident on Lake Bangweulu that claimed the lives of 14 people in Northern Province after the boat carrying 44 people capsized.

Speaking to Journalists in Samfya, SDA Church Northern Region President, Dr. Tommy Namitondo says the church will however make adjustments to ensure the safety of its members who go out on church missions.

Dr. Namitondo has also confirmed that all the 14 accident victims will be buried in one place in Chilubi Island on Monday 3rd April, 2023.

The last body was retrieved on Sunday.

The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit has however described the tragedy as negligence from the authorities and leaders that should have ensured the safety of the people.

DMMU Regional Coordinator Abel Mwape has also urged the church to ban such gatherings to avoid loss of lives.
