CHISANGA URGES ZAMBIANS IN BOTSWANA TO INVEST IN ENERGY SECTOR

.

Zambia’s High Commissioner to Botswana, Pamela Chisanga, has urged Zambians living in Botswana to invest in Zambia’s energy sector.

Ms. Chisanga said this follows favourable energy reforms introduced by President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration, which now allow private players to participate in electricity generation and sales, a development she said was previously not possible.

Speaking during Zambia’s 61st Independence Anniversary celebrations on Saturday, November 8, 2025, Ms. Chisanga noted that government’s decision to diversify energy sources to include solar, thermal, and wind was driven by the need to reduce dependence on hydro power, which has proven unsustainable following the 2023 drought.

Botswana’s Permanent Secretary for International Relations, Ambassador Thuso Ramodimoosi who was guest of honour , congratulated Zambia on its social and economic progress and praised the strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations, highlighted by the elevation of relations to a Bi-National Commission and the completion of the Kazungula Bridge.

Meanwhile, Zambian Society in Botswana President, Kenny Mkandawire, commended the Zambian community for upholding national values and fostering a strong presence in Botswana.
