
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Chirundu has arrested and jointly charged a businessman and an Assistant Accountant at the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) for alleged corrupt practices involving K30,000.
Lyabwa Mukomena, 33, an Assistant Accountant at DNPW in Chirundu, and Karlmarx Muhuli, also known as White Money, are accused of jointly offering K30,000 cash gratification to officers at the Chirundu office in an attempt to secure the release of a truck and two trailers impounded for allegedly transporting timber without the required licence or permits.
Anti-Corruption Commission Acting Head of Corporate Communications, Chilufya Chisanga,says the alleged offence occurred between 10th and 30th August 2024.
He says the two have been charged with one count of Corrupt Practices with a Public Officer, contrary to Section 19(2) as read with Section 41 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012 of the Laws of Zambia.
The suspects have since been released on bond and are expected to appear in court soon.
The Commission has since warned public officers and business persons against engaging in corrupt activities, stressing that abuse of office and disregard for lawful procedures will not be tolerated.
