A 37-year-old woman seeking treatment for an eye problem has sustained severe bleeding on her private parts after being raped by a witchdoctor.
The assault occurred on the afternoon of November 7 in the Mphand area of Nabvutika Township of Chipata City.
According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba the victim visited the traditional healer’s residence seeking eye medicine.
The witchdoctor demanded a payment of 1,200 Zambian kwacha.
When the woman explained she did not have the money, he presented an alternative, suggesting she could pay with valuable goods equivalent to the money.
He claimed the payment was necessary before he could proceed to her home to remove purported charms allegedly placed there by her estranged husband.
It was under these pretenses that the healer sexually assaulted her.
Following the attack, the woman sustained injuries including severe pain in her genitals, abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, whose name remains unknown and has fled the area by the time the report was filed.
