CHIPATA MAN, 77, SEEKS WHEELCHAIR SUPPORT

.

A 77-year-old man of Nabvutika Township in Chipata City is appealing for a wheelchair after suffering a stroke caused by hypertension.

For 57 years, Scout Ngoma and his wife, Emelia Ngulube, have been a testament to enduring commitment. But their life in Nabvutika Township has been plunged into crisis following a severe medical emergency.

The incident left Mr. Ngoma paralysed, fundamentally altering the daily existence of the elderly pair. His 75-year-old wife, Emelia, is now his full-time caregiver.

Despite being a beneficiary of the government’s Social Cash Transfer Scheme, the bi-monthly payment of K800 has proven inadequate. The funds are insufficient to cover his growing health needs, creating an unbearable financial burden for the couple.

Medical professionals at Chipata Central Hospital have prescribed a wheelchair and physiotherapy for Mr. Ngoma. However, these essential services remain beyond their means.

The hospital is located about eight kilometres from their home, and the cost of transport for regular physiotherapy sessions is a barrier they cannot overcome.

The family’s most urgent appeal is for a wheelchair to assist Mr. Ngoma with basic movement and to ease the physical strain on his aged wife.
