Normal fuel supply has been restored in Chipata City in Eastern Province a day after an alleged contamination of the commodity at reliable Mount Meru Filling Stations caused a shortage.

In addition, there are reports of some motorists reporting malfunctioning of their motor vehicles after having refueled the suspected contaminated fuel.

The affected residents claim the product has been causing engine failure and release of smoke, a situation they claim has led the company to compensate each motorist K2, 500.

Reliable sources with Mount Meru Filling station have told Diamond Media that 11, 000 litres of fuel containing pollutants was offloaded onto the market from one of its two main Filling Stations.

When Diamond Media contacted Mount Meru Lusaka Headquarters on the matter the company says investigations to establish circumstances of the incident are underway.

The Energy Regulation Board ERB is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
