Police in Chipangali District have launched a manhunt for a 26-year-old man accused of defiling two minors, aged 3 and 5 at Chanje Trading Centre on Sunday.
The suspect, is currently on the run after the incident was discovered by the children’s mother on Monday who reported to the police at Mugubudu Police Post.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has told Diamond News that the mother discovered the assault on Monday, September 8, 2025, afternoon while attempting to bathe her three-year-old daughter, who resisted and tried to run away.
Upon forcing the child to bathe, the woman observed a whitish discharge from the child’s private parts.
The young girl subsequently disclosed that the previous day, the suspect had taken her and her five-year-old friend to a well to fetch water.
On the journey back, the man allegedly defiled both children.
The suspect then threatened to kill the girls if they revealed the incident to anyone.
Both victims are reported to be suffering from painful private parts.
