
Zambia’s boxing contingent continues its impressive run at the IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships 2025, with three fighters punching their way into the quarterfinals.
Emmanuel Katema (63.5kg), Mwengo ‘1on1’ Mwale (54kg), and Patrick ‘Baddo’ Chinyemba (51kg) advance to the last eight after dominant performances in their Round of 16 bouts.
Katema opened the day’s proceedings with a stunning knockout victory over Brazil’s Charles David de Oliveira Rodrigues, ending the contest in the second round with a decisive blow.
Mwale, who rapidly gained popularity among fans, secured a unanimous points decision against Sri Lanka’s Ravindu Jayanta Kumara in the 54kg division.
The highly-anticipated bout sees Chinyemba face Moldova’s Ion Plinga, with the Zambian boxer displaying superior technique to claim a unanimous points victory in the 51kg category.
The trio now stands one win away from guaranteed medals for Zambia at the championships.
Quarterfinal action will take place on Wednesday at 14:00 local time (12:00 Zambian time), with the three boxers seeking to extend their tournament runs.
