A Chinese couple has been convicted after pleading guilty to charges related to the smuggling of 29.9 kilograms of gold and $200,000 in cash.
The couple was arrested during a regional crackdown on transnational organized crime conducted by the Zambia Police Service and other Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states from August 14th to 16th.
This is in a matter, Zhao Changson, 58, and Zhao Yanjing, 46, both residents of Harare, Zimbabwe, were charged with conveying property suspected of being stolen, under Section 319 of the Penal Code.
The court has sentenced each to a fine of K100, 000- or nine-months simple imprisonment in default.
