Over 500 illegal miners who include women and children have encroached and started illegal mining around FQM Trident Mining area in Kalumbila District of North Western Province.
First Quantum Minerals Trident Foundation Limited Manager Joseph Ngwira says the illegal mining activities have been going on for the last 3 months.
He says the activities are a security concern to FQM Trident Limited.
Mr. Ngwira says the illegal miners are using mining methods that endanger their safety and the minerals being mined at the area are unknown.
He adds that minerals being mined in the area are being sold to a Chinese investor who has set up camp within the area.
Mr. Ngwira says the mine has engaged the provincial police command to help control the situation.
