Chilanga Member of Parliament (MP) Sipho Hlazo has vowed not to allow a woman of South African origin to displace over 1, 500 people through evictions and house demolitions.
According to a writ of possession and demolition from the Lusaka High Court, the residents are expected to leave Lusaka West farms in Chilanga district tomorrow March 31st 2023.
Mr. Hlazo says despite Ms Elizabeth Catherine Cooke having a High Court order of eviction and demolition of over three 300 houses, her intentions are inhumane and should not be allowed.
He alleges that the file for the said over 2, 400 hectares farmland is missing at the Ministry of Lands.
Mr. Hlazo further wonders how a title deed could have been issued when the land had a presidential caveat through the government of first President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda in 1987.
A Diamond news crew visited the affected farmers who pleaded with the government to intervene in the matter before they become destitute.
