CHAVUMA FAMILIES DISPLACED BY STORM STILL AWAIT GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

.

Over 100 families in Kabombo Kamisamba Ward of Chavuma District who were displaced after a heavy storm destroyed more than 40 houses are yet to receive full support from the government, four days after the disaster.

The affected families have continued to squat at one of the schools in the ward, where they are seeking temporary shelter. However, living conditions remain difficult, with limited food supplies and inadequate bedding as rains intensify in the area.

In an interview with Diamond Media, Chavuma District Commissioner Geoffrey Kasonda says despite the number of affected households increasing over 40, the Northwestern Provincial Administration has been providing some little assistance, but the support remains insufficient for the scale of the crisis.

Mr. Kasonda explains that some displaced residents have already fallen ill due to exposure to harsh weather conditions, however, with help from the Ministry of Health some patients are being attended to.

He says his office awaits response from the higher offices regarding aid to the affected families.
