A one hundred- and five-year-old freedom fighter in Sinazongwe has expressed sadness that the Gwembe valley community has continued facing evictions as a result of various economic activities, leaving the people in more poverty.

Grey Kanini Madyenkuku says a number of projects to develop Valley districts including connecting them to national electricity grid, provide dams for irrigation purpose as promised before the construction of the Kariba Dam, have not been fulfilled.

He says it is sad that people in the valley continue to be evicted by various mining companies, leaving the community undeveloped.

He adds that it is a shame that most communities are living in abject poverty due to drought and lack of irrigation systems which were promised before they were relocated in 1953.
