BINWELL MPUNDU’S LAWYERS WITHDRAW FROM SEDITION CASE

.

The lawyers representing Nkana Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu have withdrawn from his sedition case, citing a conflict in instructions from their client.

Lead lawyer Leon Lemba informed the court that Mpundu insisted on a position that created a risk of conflict between his duty to the Court and that of his client, making it impossible for the legal team to continue representing him.

The application followed claims by the defence that some content from a phone, which was presented as an exhibit, had allegedly been deleted by the witness, Malindi Choongo, while on the stand.

Magistrate Webster Milumbe granted the application and removed the lawyers from the record.

Mpundu is expected to return to court on April 20, 2026, to allow him to engage new legal representation.

.

He is accused of publishing an article on his Facebook page allegedly inciting members of the public to acquire firearms in preparation for self-defence.
