
The discovery of a mysterious coffin in Virginia tobacco field in Mugubudu area of Chipangali district has stirred intrigue, following a farmer’s claim of never achieving a bumper harvest in nine years of farming.
Benjamin Banda, 52, found the small coffin, wrapped in multicolored fabric in his Virginia tobacco field on February 2nd.
After alerting traditional authorities and a traditional doctor known as Mulufela Manyazi, rituals were performed, the coffin was reportedly seen to shrink in size before being removed to the Chief Chanje’s Palace.
According to the traditional doctor findings he alleges the object was used for the spiritual theft of his tobacco and the the coffin was carrying 40 bales of tobacco.
The witchfinder further made revelation that the coffin was worth K35, 000 and blood inside was used as petrol during movements.
Chief Chanje through his Induna has warned those practicing witchcraft to deprive others from prosperity of stern action.
Police say the matter has been handed to traditional leadership to deal with it.
