ARMED THIEVES RAID CARE INTERNATIONAL

Thieves armed with machetes and a suspected pistol have stolen a motorbike, a safe containing money, multiple laptops, tablets, and a large quantity of drinks during a violent night raid on Care International Zambia offices in Chipata.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has confirmed that the aggravated robbery occurred along Malawi Road in the early hours of Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

The criminal group, believed to have consisted of about six men, also wielded a bolt cutter and other breaking implements during the attack, which occurred around 01:00 hours.

The suspects first ambushed and subdued two G4S security guards on duty, tying their hands and mouths with cloth and seal tape.

After overpowering the guards, the suspects broke into two offices.

Items stolen include a blue SkyGo motorbike belonging to one of the guards, Shadrick Kamanga, two HP laptops, thirteen Galaxy tablets, twenty-five cases of Fruticana soft drinks, ten cases of mineral water, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

One of the guards, Ringcon Chipungu, aged 38, sustained a swollen head and body pains after being assaulted by the robbers.

His colleague, 33-year-old Shadrick Kamanga, was restrained but not physically assaulted.

After the suspects fled, the two guards managed to free themselves, and Kamanga reported the incident to Chipata Police Station at 06:40 hours on Tuesday.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects, and investigations are ongoing.
