ZAMBIA ATHLETICS TEAM DEPARTS FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN TOKYO

Zambia’s top athletes have officially departed for Tokyo, Japan, to represent the nation at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, with hopes high and spirits even higher.

The team, led by star sprinter Muzala Samukonga, will compete on the global stage in one of the most prestigious events in international track and field.

Samukonga, a continental champion and fan favorite, will run in both the 400m and the 4x400m relay, anchoring a six member squad filled with promise and potential.

Joining him is a determined group of athletes, including a female sprinter Edna Ngandula, entered in the 100m event via a Wild Card, marking a proud moment for gender representation in Zambian athletics.

The full list of athletes was officially released yesterday, and excitement continues to build as Zambia prepares to make its mark in Tokyo.

Officials are optimistic that the team will perform with distinction, showcasing the talent and discipline that has become synonymous with Zambian athletics in recent years.

The Zambian delegation to the World Athletics Congress, running concurrently with the championships, includes Zambia Athletics President Mr. Bernard Bwalya, General Secretary Teddy Shimishi, and Mr. Elias Mpondela, who was specially invited by World Athletics as the third Congress Delegate, a recognition of his longstanding contributions to the sport on the international stage.

Team logistics and technical operations will be managed by Mr. John Chizu, while national team preparations have been overseen by Head Coach Douglas Kalembo, known for his tactical acumen and ability to motivate athletes at the highest level.

As the countdown begins to the first heats and finals in Tokyo, the nation is being urged to rally behind the athletes flying the Zambian flag.
