Zambia’s annual inflation rate for April 2025 has been recorded at 16.5 percent, the same as that recorded in March 2025, mainly attributed to price movements in non-food items, the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTATS) has announced.
In the latest monthly dissemination bulletin, ZamStats Acting Statistician General Sheila Mudenda has noted that annual non-food inflation has increased to 13.4 percent from 13.2 percent in March 2025, mainly due to price increases in the purchase of motor vehicles, passenger transport by air, and hammer milling charges.
However, she has stated that annual food inflation has decreased to 18.7 percent from 18.9 percent in March 2025, following price movements in cereals, fruits, and vegetables.
Meanwhile, Ms. Mudenda has disclosed that Zambia’s total trade in March 2025 increased by 10.2 percent to K55.5 billion from K50.3 billion in February 2025.
She adds that the country recorded a surplus of 600 million Kwacha during the same period, compared to a deficit of 600 million Kwacha recorded in February 2025.
