AGRICULTURE STUDENTS SHINE UNDER COMPETENCY-BASED CURRICULUM

.

The National Science Centre (NSC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education has carried out an inspection to assess how learners are practically implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) introduced in Zambia.

The inspection focused on agriculture students at David Kaunda STEM Secondary School and other selected schools, where pupils are translating classroom knowledge into hands-on farming projects.

NSC Director, Professor Benson Banda, says the CBC is more than just a change in curriculum, describing it as a practical pathway to strengthening food security while equipping learners with lifelong skills.

He noted that the approach empowers pupils to think independently and ensures that even after completing school, they leave with competencies that can support employment and self-reliance.

Meanwhile, David Kaunda STEM Secondary School Head Teacher, Maureen Tonga, expressed pride in what has been achieved on the ground.

.

She says the agriculture projects have given learners a sense of purpose and responsibility, adding that students now have productive activities to focus on even during school holidays.
