The Zambian government has partnered with China’s Jijia International Medical Technology Corporation to establish a vaccine production factory in Zambia with an approximate total investment of 37 million dollars.

The factory will be set up in Lusaka’s South Multi Facility Zone.

Speaking during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and Jijia International Medical Technology Corporation, Chinese company Deputy General Manager, Su Yonglin says the vaccine will not only effectively prevent cholera but also protect against traveler’s diarrhea caused by enterotoxigenic E. coli, providing an additional layer of safety for travelers.

And the Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Han Jing, says in the first phase of the project, over 3 million doses of the vaccines are expected to be manufactured.

Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema wants the plant to be set up in the quickest possible time.
