AFCON TITLE DISPUTE HEADS TO CAS AS SENEGAL CHALLENGE MOROCCO FORFEIT RULING

.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has formally registered an appeal by the Senegalese Football Federation against CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, confirming the case is now before the Lausanne-based tribunal.

The appeal challenges a CAF decision dated 17 March 2026, which declared that Senegal forfeited the AFCON Morocco 2025 final, recording Morocco as winners of the match by 3-0.

The Senegalese Football Federation is seeking to have the CAF ruling set aside and be declared the rightful AFCON champions. The federation has also requested an immediate suspension of the deadline to file a full appeal brief, arguing that the CAF decision was delivered without full written grounds.

CAS has confirmed that an Arbitral Panel will be appointed to handle the matter, after which a procedural calendar will be established. Under standard CAS rules, Senegal has twenty days to file its appeal brief, with CAF and Morocco then given a further twenty days to submit their defence.

However, CAS has cautioned that given the request to suspend deadlines, it is not yet possible to confirm when a hearing will be scheduled.

CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb said the tribunal was fully equipped to resolve the dispute with the assistance of expert and independent arbitrators, adding that proceedings would be conducted as swiftly as possible while respecting the right of all parties to a fair hearing.

CAS has noted that proceedings remain confidential while ongoing.
