Moton Zulu, a 42-year-old man from Lusaka, is struggling to cope after a devastating road traffic accident two months ago left him disabled. The accident resulted in the loss of both his legs, leaving him unable to work and provide for his family of six.

As the sole breadwinner, Mr. Zulu is now facing significant financial challenges, struggling to afford basic necessities like rent and food. He is appealing to well-wishers for assistance to help him rebuild his life and support his family.

The accident serves as a stark reminder of the tragic consequences of road accidents and the urgent need for improved road safety measures. In recognition of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, stakeholders are emphasizing the importance of safer roads, stricter enforcement of traffic laws, and greater accountability for reckless driving.

Zambia has seen a concerning rise in road accidents in recent years. In the third quarter of 2024 alone, the country recorded a staggering 8,970 road traffic accidents. These accidents have resulted in numerous fatalities, injuries, and property damage.

To address this pressing issue, it is imperative for the government, law enforcement agencies, and road users to work together to promote road safety. This includes improving road infrastructure, increasing awareness campaigns, and strictly enforcing traffic rules and regulations.

By prioritizing road safety, we can reduce the number of accidents, save lives, and improve the quality of life for all Zambians
