The Anti-Corruption Commission -ACC has launched the ‘No Bribes but Fines’ campaign aimed at eliminating corruption among traffic officers.
ACC Director General Gilbert Phiri has disclosed the commission often receives several complaints against the conduct of erring police traffic officers soliciting bribes.
Mr. Phiri says the number of unfit vehicles and unlicensed drivers on the road due to corruption has been on the increase hence posing danger on innocent road users.
He has since warned that any officer found wanting will be prosecuted because the Civil Service has no place for corrupt elements.
However, Mr. Phiri has challenged members of the public to desist from bribing uniformed men and women manning road patrols because the act is a punishable offence.
Recently social media was awash when a named woman reported a traffic cop who was caught bribing a motorist but upon seeing the concerned woman the officer fled the scene and in the process dropped his official cap.
